Fahrenheit 451 (Page 1 - 100 summary)

     Fahrenheit 451 is set in futuristic America where books are outlawed and firemen are the main causes of fires. In this universe, firemen are called to burn books to ashes, and that is what the main character does, Guy Montag.

    One night as Guy was walking home from the fire station, he encounters Clarisse McClellan, a free-willed seventeen-year-old. There, Clarisse questions Guy about life, his job, and what it means to live. From that point onwards, Guy keeps meeting her on a day-to-day basis.

    On another night, Guy came home to find his wife lying lifelessly down on the bed. After finding an empty bottle of medication next to her, he quickly admitted her to the hospital. The doctors there managed to get the toxins out of her system, and there is where Guy learns that her wife's case is more common than what he had expected.

    The words that Clarisse had said to him had made him all the more anxious. So much so that he questioned whether burning books was something that was right to his fellow firemen. The conversation gets cut short with the other firemen not taking Guy seriously and having gotten a call for duty.
